Royal jelly is also known as royal sap or queen sap. It is a secretion secreted by the worker bees. It is the only food for the queen bee during her life. In naturopathy, royal jelly is considered a high-quality tonic for humans.
Biological functions of royal jelly
This is also revealed by the alternative name “real feed juice”. “Weisel” is called queen bee in bee language. Workers provide their leader with a nutrient-rich secretion from the day of birth, which promotes cell growth and ultimately enables reproduction. In terms of its nutrient density, royal jelly could almost be compared to colostrum; a nutritious first breast milk that mammalian babies receive immediately after birth. It is similar with bees: all larvae are given royal jelly early in life to give them the best possible start in their short, busy lives.
The queen relies on him for much longer to maintain his size and power, which she desperately needs in his long, almost exhausting existence. The life of bees, whether as worker or queen, is not really a picnic, but the foraging juice with the right name creates the physical conditions for it.

Production of royal jelly
For the production of royal jelly, the beekeeper sets up a queen rearing facility.
For this purpose, a frame with artificial cells (wax shells) is placed in the hive, in which the worker bees are placed. These are seen by bees as queen larvae and are supplied with abundant royal jelly.
After three days, the cell frame is removed from the hive. Then the highest quality royal jelly is available. The larvae are removed from the wax shells and the royal jelly is sucked out of the soil. The royal jelly obtained in this way is also known as native royal jelly.
